Development Roadmap Update - 08.08.2024


Hey folks, back with your weekly update on all things Rivencliff!

New Shading

As you might have seen in the previous few posts, I have been playing around with shading lately. I am thinking about ditching Unreal Engine from the pipeline and just do everything in Blender instead. There are some caveats to that (especially getting foliage and outdoor environments in general to work), but I think in the long-term it could be worth it! Especially the better control of the look of the final image is very much worth it.

Delaaaaaaaaaaaaaaays

As mentioned before things are a bit slow at the moment. I am currently looking into hiring a 2D artist for storyboarding to give the current project a bit more structure and the writing for Sunset will start in a couple days.

It's kinda okay to have these delays right now as my job hunting is also slow at the moment. I am close to closing on a job, but there were some unexpected developments on their end and right now I am not even sure if they are still going to offer me the job.

It would be really great to get it as the extra money would help a lot pushing the VNs forward, but we'll see how it goes! By next week I should have a final update on that.

What is money

gamescom is in 2 weeks! Like every year, I will have opportunity to talk some industry friends and professionals and hopefully connect some dots that will help me making the VNs. I am especially looking for advice and tips on monetazation. It's something I seriously struggle with (because I really don't care about making money with this), but it's something that needs to be looked into as I simply won't be able to make any more projects without it.

All in all, everything is a bit slow at the moment, which I hate, but am unfortunately not able to change, so I gotta sit it out. I hope I can pick up the pace really soon!
